A pop up updater when closing Firefox is suspicious

more options

When I open Firefox, the welcome page says my version is up to date. But when I close Firefox, a pop up box appears telling me that Firefox is out of date and to click on a button to fix that. I have a screen shot of it if you wanted to know what it looked like and what it said. But I don't know how to send it.

Which version of Firefox are you running if you check that in Help > About?

See:

Firefox 19.0.2 is the current release.

Because my Firefox 9.0.2 says that I don't need an update and then this pops up that says I do. I think that it is a fraudulent link probably leading to malware of some kind. And if it is, I would think that Mozilla would want to know about it.

The screenshot show a normal software update window AFAICT, so there may be some files pending somewhere that were downloaded.

If files already have been downloaded then remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.

I have the same problem. When I am on a web site a small dancing popup demands I update my Firefox. There is no way to get rid of it until I close the web site. One time I allowed the update to get rid of the uncontrollable dancing update popup. I downloaded it but before I installed it, my virus protection alarmed and said I had a Trojan which it deleted. When I checked my downloads, the Firefox update had been deleted. There is something in Firefox that allows this pest to continue - how do I clean it up?

a small dancing popup

That's not from Mozilla. The website is trying to get you to download a fake "update" which attempts to install a virus on your PC.

You are right. I noticed that datasrvrs had something to do with the pop ups. I googled it and removed it.

Then I went to start/control panel/add remove programs. I found about 6 programs that I did not recognize and they seemed to be related to marketing. I removed all 6 and that cleaned up my system. Some of them were difficult to get rid of but I persisted and got rid of them.

Hope this helps others.
