Firefox 14 keeps crashing upon loading. Maybe sticks open for 10 seconds, but without any functionality. Then closes and asks me to restart or close.

I have tried reinstalling, opening it in safe mode with add-ons disabled as well.. I don't get anything from the crash reports either, as it wont allow me to see it. I have tried everything that I possible could think about..

I'm lost on this one.

Have you tried to create a fresh profile? Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles.

If that doesn't work, we might have to try totally uninstalling and reinstalling a fresh install of Firefox.

Nope, but I just tried that now. Didn't help either.. It's still crashing. :(

I have also tried to uninstall with all preferences and bookmarks and everything and then reinstalled without any help.

Ok, go ahead and do these steps:

First, verify you have a backup copy of your profile (Recovering important data from an old profile will show you how to, as will Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles ).

After doing that, uninstall Firefox from your computer. Use the Add Remove programs inside your control panel to do that.

Then, open up your Computer, go to the C:/ Drive. Go to Program files (it may be called Program Files(x86)), and find the Mozilla Firefox folder. Delete it.

Then, click your start button, type in %APPDATA%, and press Enter. right click the folder called Mozilla (I would make a copy of this folder first) and click delete.

Then, restart your PC.

Now, go to www.getfirefox.com, and re-download Firefox and reinstall it. Does Firefox work now, or at least provide you a crash ID?

It still gives the message after I've done and followed youre guide lines.

If it helps, I can write what it says:

We're sorry

Firefox has encountered an error and crashed. Firefox will try to restore your tabs and windows when the program restarts.

You can help us diagnose and correct the problem by sending us a bug report.

I've then posted a bug report several times.

Can you give me the Crash Id? (it's not a bug report, it's a crash ID)

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox location bar (that's where you enter your website names) and press Enter. You should now see a list of submitted crash reports.
  2. Copy the most recent 5 report IDs that you see in the crash report window and paste them into your forum response.

Thanks in advance for your help!

More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

@ Tylerdowner.

I am not able to type anything in the browser before it crashes, so that is not possible.

@ el-cor

My firewall is off, and I use Ad-Aware, and neither of them is blocking anything in Mozilla Firefox now. I'm still experiencing the same crash.

Let's keep an eye on it for a few days. If it starts happening again, let us know.

more options

It happened right after I reloaded the browser, just to check on, if it would appear.

Try this crash ID.

So this is a known bug in Firefox 14 (and maybe 13?). If you have information you would like to add, you can comment on the bug. I will link to this from that bug, and see if I can get some developer eyes on this, since it seems rather severe.

What i would do for know (if you don't want to help diagnose this issue) is install Firefox 13 again. ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/13.0.1/win32/en-US/

Shall I delete the current version before installing 13.0.1? (Current vers.: 14.0.1)

more options

Yes, go ahead and uninstall it first.

more options

Alright, I've installed the 13.0.1 which functions without any problems. :-)

Awesome. I've notified the devs of your specific issue. Would you mind, if they need some specific information, me gathering that from you in a private message to help the issue be solved?

more options

Sure, no problem. I'll be checking my messages every now and then. :-)

Thanks for the help so far. I'm happy as long as Firefox is working, and I dont have to use Chrome.. ;-)
