At the start of a browser session, FF always tries to open several pdf files that were downloaded and saved to disc months ago. How do I turn off this behavior?

I have downloaded, installed then uninstalled the add-in PDF Download. Uninstalling did not eliminate the behavior.

Delete downloads.sqlite (plus downloads.rdf, if it exists) in the Profile Folder
