It is simple AVG Password Protection states that my account has been breached and I should change my password.

Password Protection lacks any sort of information about its use

Did some more thinking .....

On their site it says :

"AVG antivirus must be installed on your PC to enable AVG Password Protection. If you don't have any AVG antivirus installed, you need to install it first. "

Well, you have the AVG antivirus installed.

And then I found :

"Password Protection is available in the AV management console "

Then there is where you should be able to remove it, I'd say ....

Hi,

Here AVG explains how to change the password :

It was difficult to read the answer because it came up in a box in the middle of the screen and only appeared when I clicked either of the 'Did' or 'Did not' boxes.

However the answer did not work because I had got this far and Password Protection told me to log into the site indicated (Mozilla Firefox) and change the password. This is the question I need an answer to. How do I change the Mozilla Firefox password?

I must say that I am not happy with Password Protection.

I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about - you only need a password on Mozilla if you have a Sync account (or to sign in on the support forum) ....

Or are you talking about a Master Password  ?

If you're not happy with AVG Password Protection (I don't think that you're the only one), why don't you just remove the program and use the Password Manager  :

Thank you for your reply.

I have installed AVG's Password Protection and it was this application that instructed me to change passwords.

Incidentally I have tried to uninstall PP without success. It appeared in 'New additions' - I right clicked and then clicked 'uninstall'. PP is still interfering with my programmes, it does not appear in my list so I cannot remove it in the normal way; I am very disenchanted with it and worried about the security of my passwords.

Have you looked in Windows Control Panel => Programs & Features  ?

You should be able to uninstall it there .....

If you can't find it there, you could ask AVG how to uninstall PP :

(scroll all the way down).

Thank you, you're being very helpful but the control panel does not list PP. I have tried AVG with little success their Chat is not available; they supply a telephone number for me to use and do not say if it is free or not (and I think that any conversation is going to take a long time) and there is no provision for email - which would be the most satisfactory method for me.

I like AVG's security but the difficulty in making contact when help is needed has made me consider looking to another company when it is time to renew.

Thanks for the help, Laurie Penman

Maybe try their Chat option again after the weekend  ? And I see some other options there, like their support forum. Otherwise : spend some money on that phone call, after which you never spend any money on their products again .....

Personal note : With Windows' built-in Defender and the safest browser on the planet :  to me it feels like being in Fort Knox   !

I sure wish I could help you solve this problem and help you to get rid of this AVG right now .....

Maybe somebody else will see this and come up with the perfect solution for you (fingers crossed .... )

I noticed that you marked my first as Chosen Solution, but I didn't really solve anything, did I  ?  :(

You can remove that mark by clicking on the 'Undo' button to the right of that post.

Couldn't let it go just yet and in case you're in GB or US : good news  !

It says here : " Free Consultation" .....

Then I clicked on 'For other countries click here', which took me to page that says : " Call Toll Free" ......

Hey Laurie, I just noticed that you marked my last post as Chosen Solution - does this mean that you managed to remove the PP  ? If so : yay  !!!

If not : will you call them, as those phone calls won't cost you anything (see my penultimate post)  ?
