Been getting lots of patches for updates that Norton removes. Want to update Firefox but there is no Help icon under my menu.

My details all disappeared when I hit the Automatically add button below. I'll try to remember what I just composed. I keep getting notices that I need to install an urgent update patch. When I install, Norton advises they are all very dangerous Trojans. I thought updating Firefox would stop the fake notices but when I follow the directions and hit the menu button, there is no Help icon to click. (1) how do I update manually? (2) how do I stop them from sending fake, dangerous notices? Now, I won't know when a real notice comes from Firefox. Thank you for your help. You can be sure I won't make a mistake and click on the Automatically add button below again. I am a new Firefox user and this is all very confusing for me.

hi, this is a scam tactic that is trying to trick you into installing malware, so don't download or execute this kind of stuff just because of a popup or redirect on a website! updates are handled automatically by firefox so you don't have to download anything for that (and you can always initiate a manual check for updates in the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > about firefox).

we suspect this is coming form "malvertising" (=ads placed on legitimate websites that redirect you to this fraudulent message), so using an adblocking addon like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/ would also help with that.

Thank you so very much. I used the add on you suggested. And I found out how to get to the help icon for any time I want to do a manual update. I really appreciate your prompt reply that helped resolve the issue.

The fact that these fake firefox-patch.js files are being served from random weird name websites should alone be a big red flag. One of the fake urgent Firefox update sites reported a few days ago sounded like a porn site even ahwernaked-sluts.net

Updates in Firefox on Windows, Mac, Linux are done internally in Firefox or by download from mozilla.org or www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/
