A site I have many bookmarks for changed its URL, how do I update all those bookmarks in a batch?

The old URLs are all wrong in exactly the same way. I could go through one by one and edit each of them, but since I made the change from windows to Ubuntu I feel I should keep in the spirit of using the tools as best I can.

Is there a way to do bulk edits of bookmarks from within firefox?

If not, where would I find the bookmarks file (and in what format) to do a batch edit from the command line?

Any suggestions on how to do that (besides making that necessary backup file first) would be welcome!

There might be an add-on that can help you. I don't know. Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.

As to within Firefox, open the Bookmarks Manager. Use the search box to bring up all of that website. And get typing.

This is somewhat complicated.

To open the Bookmarks Manager, press the Alt or F10 key bring up the tool bar, and select Bookmarks. Hot key is <Control>(Mac=<Command>) <Shift> B.

Once the window is open, at the top of the page, press the button labeled Import and Backup. Select Export Bookmarks To HTML, and follow the prompts and save it to a HTML file.

Now open the HTML file in a "Word" program. Edit using the Replace feature. But remove Everything you are not editing. Once you are done, save the file under another name. (Replace ?) Now import this new HTML into the bookmarks Manager. Repeat the instructions above, BUT select Import Bookmarks From HTML,

You should now have two bookmarks, the old and the new. Test the new, then remove the old.

You can either use a JSON backup or an HTML backup and edit this file in a text editor. A JSON backup has the advantage of supporting tags and restoring a JSON backup automatically replaces all current bookmarks while importing an HTML backup will merge the bookmarks, so you would first have to remove all current bookmarks.
