Latest versions have made obsolete the possibility to keep history based on user-defined period of time.

I actually would like to have that back and keep history indefinitely or have the possibility to archive it. How can this be done?

This doesn't address the limitations introduced in the latest versions http://blog.bonardo.net/2010/01/20/places-got-async-expiration

That article is almost 6 years old. Places history has been changed a few time since then; the "days" pref is long (as in "years ago") gone. You need to find blog postings from late 2014 or in 2015 to read about what was being done during development for the current Firefox version or more recent versions released earlier this year.

I haven't been lucky finding an answer to this question. I'd love to hear specific steps which would allow me to keep more than 1 month of history.

Anyone?

That should still work.

When do you lose history?

If you visit a lot of pages then you may exceed the maximum number of pages that Firefox keeps.

You could try to check this with the Places Maintenance extension. You can also lose history in case there is a problem with the places.sqlite database.

See also the comments in the Firefox source code.

As you can see, Firefox will save your history.

History and cookies can be removed or not recorded several ways;

  • 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
  • 2) Privacy settings
    (Type about:preferences#privacy<enter> in the address bar.)
  • 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers. Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone.
  • 4) Mal-ware.

Although my settings clearly show that i have correctly selected the right option to keep history i still end up losing history daily. So between 3 and 4 weekss, that's i'm left with.

And no, i don't use my browser that much and don't run a cleaner of some sort. Perhaps interesting to note that I'm on Linux Mint
