What Functionality Does Panasonic Viera TV and Firefox OS Support?

Panasonic has announced their 2014 connected TV sets (Viera?) will run the Firefox OS. That implies unique development opportunities. Panasonic has a terrible support website for developers and --nothing-- is being said about Firefox OS there. I asked Panasonic about this and they told me "go to the website."

I don't know who at Mozilla helped make this so-called partnership happen but I'm here to tell you all Panasonic support sucks and they have apparently already backstabbed a developer who used jQuery to develop his app which Panasonic would now allow into their marketplace because "it failed to follow the rules and was not developed using JavaScript." WTF you ask? Me too. This was all over the Twittersphere a couple of weeks ago (@virtualCableTV).

The --ONLY-- way I will even think about getting myself involved in this kind of insanity is if and only if what I have heard about Firefox OS is true: that is, I can code to the hardware like the TV tuner and when coding a TV app what I want to do is write code that enables the TV program to be on the screen at the same time as other content I make available. Let's call this connected TV embedded into a Digital Signage template which contains other content.

Does developing and deploying to the Firefox OS support connected TV and Digital Signage content on the same screen at the same time?

Has anybody determined if Panasonic allows this or cripples it on those models which run the Firefox OS?

Thanks for contacting Mozilla Support. I'm just a volunteer contributor here helping out other users and consumers just like you. There hasn't been much news around Panasonic and Firefox OS lately but there are certainly plans and more to come around this for sure. I know you are eagerly waiting for more information in regards to this.
