Firefox sync shows login successful but it did not login

I've been having this problem for a few months now, and despite various updates in the app it persists. Phone: Sony Xperial Z5P, Android 7.1.1 Current app version 57.0.4

On selecting Sync in the settings page, it takes me to the login page for Firefox sync. After inputting the correct email and password, it shows me that the login was successful, and I also get an email confirmation. However when I go back to the settings page it's still the same as before login.

Normally when the login is successful it should show the email account under the sync option, but after logging in it is still blank. Selecting the sync option after login should take me to the sync options, but instead it takes me back to the login page. Every time I log in I get an email confirmation, but the app just doesn't log in properly. I even checked the connected devices list in the Firefox Sync page on PC, but it is not there.

Reinstalling the app didn't work, the same thing still happens.

For now I've been using the beta version as it seems to be working properly there but I still hope I can find a solution for this soon.

What do you mean? I’ve been using this same account to sync for a few years now, across multiple devices (including the same phone I’m having the problem on, before I tried to see if reinstalling the app would fix it, but all it did was make me lose the bookmarks I had from a successful sync almost half a year ago).

All of my other devices have no problem syncing, even the beta version of firefox can sync on the same phone. Only this version of firefox on this phone has this problem.

If I make an attempt after a long time, I get a confirmation mail asking if I tried to log in. When I click on the link to confirm, it takes me to the login successful page, but sync does not start. After that if I check on the settings page it still shows as if I never logged in. Selecting sync in the settings page just keeps leading me into an endless loop of input username/password, login successful, input username/password. And with each attempt I still receive a login notification mail.

By now I’m just wondering if there’s something conflicting with the app that stops it from recognizing that there was a successful login to firefox sync.

Still stuck using Beta version since the normal version won’t let me login to sync.
