Trying to install 73.0 Beta 11 but keeps failing with "patch apply failed." I think this is a workstation permissions issue but I need more info...

I'm currently on 73.0b5 (64-bit) on Windows 10. I'm trying to use the "Update to 73.0 Beta 11" button from the "About" screen to update the browser. This normally works but today, it's having problems and I suspect it's due to our corporate policies being changed around.

I'm going to submit a request to our enterprise idiot to have this fixed in their whitelists, etc. but before I can do that, I need to know what kinds of permissions to request. What's responsible for the update process and what folders need to have which permissions for this to work?

Because right now, pressing the "Update to 73.0 Beta 11" button results in Firefox downloading the update but when it tries to install it, it fails with the "Update failed. Download the latest version" message in the "About" screen (when it was working last week without a single hitch).

According to my about:support details, I'm seeing the following:

- Update Folder: C:\ProgramData\Mozilla\updates\<Long String> - Application Binary: C:\Program Files\Firefox Developer Edition\firefox.exe - Profile Folder: C:\Users\<my username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<string>.dev-edition-default - Antivirus, Antispyware, and Firewall are all governed by McAfee Endpoint Security (which hasn't been an issue in the past).

I suspect that all of this is due to our enterprise guys modifying the permissions that our "elevated permissions" has... So once I have a better understanding of what things need which permissions, I'll be able to request that the elevated permissions be modified accordingly.

Any insight into this would be appreciated. It's a shame we don't have logs that clearly explain what folders or files lack whatever permissions to better understand bottlenecks like this. Maybe we do have that and I'm just not aware of it?

I'm finally figuring out that every time I do an update to Firefox, my FVD Speeddial Extension gets deleted. I didn't relate the two until now. I have been re-creating the tabs every time, but I had SO many this time that I'm crushed. I will be backing them up before updating next time, but can I recover them this time? Is there a fix for this? The EverSync backup does not have my latest version, I already checked.

I use three web browsers which are FireFox, Google Chrome and Edge as I find each has it own merits above the others in some uses .

I want each to use there own browser which I can not find how to do as when one of them prompts me to makes theres the default it takes me to windows setting which will change the default for all three.

Is there a way of have a default search engine for each web browser as at the moment Chrome is set for all three

Cheers

How to update to latest Firefox version on Panasonic Vierra TV, thanks, hassmans@hotmail.com attempt failed using "https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-"

For years I have happily used Mozilla Firefox to viewing Youtube and other online resources. However, just recently after opening the Youtube app on screen, along with the normal array of selectable videos, the following message appears at the top: “We’ll stop supporting this browser soon. For the best experience, please update your browser.”

When I go to the website https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/new/?utm_campaign=supported-browser&utm-medium=referral&utm_source=youtube.com I see only two options “Download in another language” and “Fix a problem”. Upon choosing the latter, I move to the website: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings?utm_source=mozilla.org&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=fix-problem-link where I select “Install and update”, yielding again another website https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/firefox/install-and-update-firefox showing “Update Firefox to the latest release”. Selecting this in turn moves me to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-release and “Update Firefox to the latest release”.

However, I can go no further, since clicking on my Panasonic Vierra TV’s menu button in the upper right corner of the large screen does not produce any “Help” option and thus no ability to choose “About Firefox”, where the actual download could take place.

Would most appreciate any assistance in resolving this Firefox update problem for my Panasonic TV. Many thanks.

I rebooted my Windows computer and the automatic updater for Firefox started up, but my firewall blocked it because it said it had an invalid security certificate. I tried to allow it, but it again said I had an invalid certificate. I then blocked it, and it gave the same message. So I rebooted my computer again, and Firefox came up working properly, saying I had the newest Firefox version.

The firewall (via Norton Security) said there were less than 5 persons using this installer. That alone is weird.

What should I do the next time this happens? Thanks!

I run Linux Mint 19.1 MATE desktop 64 bit and its language is US English, and when I am filling in a web form, I have set my language in Firefox to English (United States) -- Context menu > Language.

Invariably, when the repository brings me a new Firefox (now 73.0 64-bit), I find such misspelled words as "color" and "center," ("colour" and "centre" preferred), when I am commenting on a web form's Comment box. I look and it is set to English (United Kingdom). I set it to (United States) and it's good to go again until the next upgrade!

I presume it has more to do with the Firefox repository than with the Mozilla developers and the Firefox "factory," to draw a comparison with the local Cadillac dealership and the factory. "Comparison" wasn't the word I was looking for, here!

Any ideas or suggestions how to stop this preference change? Thank you.

When Firefox is launched, a Finder Message reads: "The application “Firefox.app” can’t be opened." After problems with Firefox (possibly related to Kaspersky Internet Security software), I finally resorted to: a) uninstalling and deleting all Kaspersky software (which had no effect), b) deleting all Firefox and Mozilla files, and c) reinstalling a new downloaded version of Firefox. Firefox still will still not launch when the Firefox icon in the Applications folder is clicked. The so-called safe-mode launch is not available when the Option key was used for launch. I can launch the new version of Firefox using a Terminal command (which also restores previous in-use windows and website pages that were in use), but no web pages will load anyway.
