Second email address receives, then message immediately deletes.
Default address sends & receives fine - but secondary address will receive (sometimes), and message immediately deletes automatically. If I'm fast enough, I can move the new messages to another folder, where they remain until I have a chance to read them. Both email addresses have the same server configuration - but only one will work properly

So lets check some settings: Do you and your husband use POP or IMAP? Have you or your husband checked "Leave messages on server"? (see image)

Hi AnnieMac,
what do you call a "secondary" address? If you have two mail addresses and have created two accounts in thunderbird, each receiving mails from the same or another provider, then your second account should work as the other one. Did you check the spam folder? Or maybe there's another filter, moving the mails to a different folder (maybe in "local folders") or even deleting them?

Sorry, I didn't give much info on my issue. My husband and I each have our own email address (as well as separate computers). I was always able to receive emails for his email address on my computer, using Windows Mail. Now that I have switched to Thunderbird, mail to my address still arrives as usual, however, mail to my husband's address is more "hit and miss". Sometimes there are messages which do not come through - and when a message does come, it disappears from the inbox almost immediately. If I try to open and read in his mailbox, I have to be really quick or else it's gone - and if I do open and read, then close the message - the message disappears and I can't get it back. I've tried to follow all the instructions on configuring his email address, but it doesn't change anything. I can't figure out why one address comes in fine, and the second address is hit and miss! Thanks for your response georg - but I've checked all the folders, and they're not holding any messages. Still need help!
