Windows 7 sucks. After upgrading {Critical) Firefox works for a couple of days, then when you go to start it, you get the BLACK WINDOW. We used to be able to make Compatible with XP, but that trick does not work anymore. This makes Firefox UNUSABLE, unless you do a SYSTEM RESTORE. Even after a SYSTEM RESTORE, Firefox only works for a day or two.

It is best not to run Firefox in compatibility mode and clear all the checkboxes in the Compatibility tab in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
