I have downloaded the program. I am asked to give my email address. I enter my email address but do not get a confirmation back. However, now that i went to this help center I was able to create an account so i may now be able to finish installing the program.

You should be able to install Firefox (or other Mozilla products) without needing to enter your email address or create an account.

Before taking further steps to install, can you check what it is that you are installing, in case it is an impostor?
