New upload of Firefox 26 to OSX does not store bookmarks
I just downloaded FireFox 26 and installed it on my Mac running OSX 10.8.4. It found an older version and I told it to reset. Then I tried to import bookmarks from Chrome. It couldn't do it from the Browser, nor from an HTML that I exported from Chrome. Then I noticed that it wouldn't even let me drag a URL into the bookmarks toolbar, nor does it save bookmarks using any other approach (like "Add Bookmark"!). In short, it's not saving any bookmarks. I should point out that my home folder is on a network drive, if that makes any difference.
I'm doing this because I'm tired of Chrome messing up. But I really need the bookmark sync feature to work in Firefox. This experience is not making it look good. Does anyone have experience with syncing bookmarks between Mac and PC computers running Firefox? TIA

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible.
- Firefox menu button > Options
- View > Toolbars (press F10 to display the menu bar)
- Right-click empty toolbar area
Use Toolbar Layout (Customize) to open the Customize window and set which toolbar items to display.
- check that "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
- if "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette into the Customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
- if missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
- if you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar setup
You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file if the above didn't help.
Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
