How do I download and open files in just one step? Sometimes it downloads but I have to double click the file in the download window to open it.

Also, why does firefox ask me to choose an application for opening word and power point files, even though I have already told it to always use that application when opening these file types? What is the purpose of the check box if it keeps asking me that question?

An automatic download action is always associated with a specific MIME type and if you set such an action for the wrong MIME type then it may not work or behaves erratically.
