I am on latest version of Mac OSX. I downloaded and installed Firefox 17 MANY times. Even uninstalled first. Firefox & sites still tells me to upgrade. Help!

Even though I've uninstalled Firefox and installed the upgrade, I still get an error message that I need to upgrade Firefox when I start the browser. Also get warnings from sites that I need to upgrade. Even took my computer to the Apple store and they couldn't figure it out. Please help. Working with Firefox 16 to 17 and Mac 10.7

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.
