Firefox wont close when I clicl on the X so I have to force my computer to shut down

I first noticed this about a month ago if I was using firefox and clicked on a couple of links, when I came to switch off the computer it wouldn't close, saying that such and such a program was still running; Then on occasions it froze, Ctrl Alt Del unfrose it but the frozen program would be there preventing shutdown. Now, if ever I go onto fire fox I have to force a shut down.

Dear Swarnava. Thank you very much for your reply. I thought that I had upgraded some time ago, but it seems that I am still on 3.6. I have gone to "gefirefox.com", clicked on the "upgrade to 8" several times, clicked "save this file" each time, but nothing wonderful has happened; It doesn't even say "restart your computer", which I did, just incase. I have run an "advanced systems care" throught the computer and it shows nothing untoward. STRANGE . T.
