updating to new version - saved download to file, now what?

I run LINUX on a eepc. I downloaded firefox-5.0.1.tar.bz2 - I saved it to file because it I didn't know which application to open it with. I went to the file looking for an .exe or install file, but couldn't find one. How do I get it to install? thank you.
