Can not download newest VDH Companion App and I can't set up a github.com account to even report the problem
Hello,
I have tried to download the newest VDH Companion App (via the link on the github.com webpage) Seven (yes, 7) times and every time the download Fails or I get "Zero bytes". I tried to contact "Support" but there is only a Support Forum and nobody else has posted this as an issue that I was able to find when I searched. So no support is offered. The website suggests that I create an account to be able to post a new issue. However, Every time I have tried to set up a github.com account, I am Unable to do so. The page to set up an account either doesn't load OR if it loads, I can not add any information to it. I am a VDH Registered User and until this morning, the current VDH app I am using, version 8.2.1.1 was working just fine. But now when I try to use it, it says that my VDH Companion App needs to be updated. But I can not even download it to update it. I am running the current version of FF, 123.0.1 on an iMac with Sonoma OS 14.4. We used to be able to email Mig but not anymore. The github.com support page is unwieldy at best and I see that numerous requests for help or support have not been answered or even acknowledged. I am a paid Registered user with a license, but that doesn't seem to matter. I, like many others from what I read online, count on using this app almost every day and I would think that the mechanism for updates should be working correctly. The update files I tried to download came across at crazy low speeds, like 20.1 to 40.5 Kbps! I spent over an hour with Tech Support for HughesNet and much to my chagrin, No Other Websites had any issues with download speed. It was only happening on the github.com website and this one file update. Sorry if TMI but I am just trying to thorough.

Hello jscher2000,
Yes, I have tried (and every download failed) that same website 7 times before your reply. Thanks for your suggestion to try Safari. First time I tried the download Again, using Safari, it failed. I tried it again, for the 9th time, and after over an Hour to download 71+ MB file, I Finally got it downloaded And the installer worked successfully. I have been trying to get this file since 8:30 AM this morning. I did not have any issue whatsoever downloading much larger files (like Microsoft updates) from any other website. So the download issue was specific just to the website that you linked to. I want to thank you very much for your suggestion to use Safari. I rarely use it, so I did not even consider doing this. I appreciate your prompt response also.

Thank you for reporting back. Could have been luck of the draw with lower traffic on the site, or maybe Safari is more forgiving of slow downloads. ??
Hello jscher2000,
Well, I spoke too soon. While I did Finally get the download for the Companion App, had to run the installer twice to get it installed, then verified that all was in order: the DLH app, the Companion App, Platform and License Verified, I Thought I was complete and good to go. But then I tried to download from a website that I have several previous downloads from (using DLH and previous Companion App), but now I get Exit Code 1 and No download. Checking the forum on github.com, I see that there are many other folks having the same issue, whether using Windows or Mac. Some folks posit that it is the website that is blocking downloads and/or if YouTube, that they are blocking downloads. I have no way to ascertain whether either case is true. What I do know is that Before the "upgrade" to the new Companion App, I was able to download easily from either website. I had No Error or Exit Code 1. Now the DLH app is essentially worthless as I can not download anything. I have tried on several different websites to see if it is website specific. DLH as I have it now does not work on any website I have tried. The "workarounds" posted on the github.com website are typically for Windows users and most require a level of programming/coding that I do not know or even feel comfortable in using. Years ago, I tried to follow some suggestions using the Mac Terminal and I managed to get my iMac so screwed up that it took two different Apple Senior Advisors to get me sorted out. So I am very reluctant to mess with this again. So Very LSS. By any chance, do you have any idea of what I can try next? I appreciate your time and help.

Unfortunately, troubleshooting the app is over my head.
Maybe it's time to try a different downloader, if there is another safe one.
