prefs.Js? Will Thunderbird work properly if this is locked in the quarantine?

more options

Greetings. Possibly the answer to my question will become obvious on its own, but this is currently "new." Avast has given me the pictured notification, and I am wondering if I now need to repair Thunderbird? [BTW, I have no idea when or how this thing infected my computer. My scans are always fine.]

Thanks in advance. Oh. This is 91.2.0 (32-bit) if that is a thing that matters.

prefs.js stores a lot of important custom settings for Mozilla programs. I don't know how your accounts will be affected by quarantining the file.

Firefox users also are getting this detection from Avast/AVG, and it's not yet clear what triggers it. I'd say it's premature to give an all clear to restore the file from quarantine (if that's even an option).

Thank you so much!!! I'm a little relieved to hear that others are experiencing an issue with this vbs. Maybe it could turn out to be a false positive.

I wasn't even considering taking this thing out of quarantine. Thinking that a previously normally functioning thing had gotten infected, I was wondering if I needed to figure out how to replace it or repair it (or whatever the correct terms are). So far Thunderbird "seems" fine, but sometimes things are going terribly wrong without it immediately being obvious.

Avast forums now say it was a false positive and they've issued a fix --

-- but unfortunately, we still have to clean up the damage by restoring the file to its original location.

Does Avast have a feature for this in its quarantine? The original path on disk is listed in your screenshot, so if you can get the file, you also could drop it back in that folder (and replace the new one without any useful information in it that most likely was created there the next time you started Thunderbird).

Again, thank you! It does have a quick easy way to restore and make an exception, but when I started to do it, it gave me the attached message.
