Why can't I change browser cache capacity ?

Firefox "builds up" internet cache capacity to 1.0 GB fairly quick. I can easily delete it & do it about once a day. I go to about:config & change: browser.cache.disk.capacity from 1048576 to the default, which shows 256000 (kilobytes, I believe). I close Firefox & reopen. It goes back to the 1048576 KB every time. How can I "save" the default capacity? I believe that 1.0 GB is too large.

I also notice that before I change the value, it is written in bold print & then change it to default, it is not in bold type.
DOES ANYONE know the "answer" to my question????

Thank you
