hyperlinks in messages don't work. I confirmed that firefox is still my default browser.
hyperlinks in messages do not work. I read the article and checked that firefox is still my default browser. The only thing that has changed is that I now have to use both IE and firefox because firefox won't display facebook properly, even though I hate IE. But firefox definitely is still my default browser.
Between the 2 problems it is making me nuts. Facebook in firefox displays only in text, no graphics. Aargh.
Chosen solution
lets put it this way, unless you have added handlers for hyperlinks to the attachments in options or changed one of the settings in the config editor mentioned in the article then the issue is not Thunderbird.
Thunderbird's default behavior is to pass of the link to the operating system with a "process this" request.
So the process of elimination is;
- In Thunderbird is check the preferences for a change, perhaps from an add-on.
- Check the attachment behaviors in Attachment for the additions of HTTM, HTTPS, HTML
- Fix the operating system.
Things external to thunderbird I am aware can cause troubles.
- Multiple browsers updating the default registry entry
- Anti virus programs blocking links from applications.

Have you disabled the automatic change IE does?
As I said, Firefox is still my default browser. I double checked this. Also, it is not that the links open in IE - they don't open at all.

I have no idea what the problem was, but it has stopped happening once I stopped using IE. Once I solved my firefox problem (caused by adblock plus) I shut down IE (which I hate anyway) and suddenly everything works fine.
Thank you for your help.
