Update of *shared* addons hangs

Platform: Windows7 x64, Firefox 45.2.0 ESR

I've got addons installed in the shared "<Mozilla Firefox>\browser\extensions" folder, not in profile directories. Till now, when I was using the 35.x.x ESR version of Firefox, update of the addons to a newer version has been working without problems. Now I was forced to switch to 45.x.x ESR, and the addon updates stopped working, the addon installation "hangs".

Was the ability to update shared addons removed between v.35 and v.45? Or is this a bug? Or is this only a problem of my installation? I've already verified that update of addons in profile directories works even now.
