cannot shut down or open ff and it is preventing my MAC book from shutting down . Cannot delete and reinstall because it is open
I am using OS El Capitan 10.11.1 and a mac book pro mid 2014. Force Quit does not work. There is the little black dot under the icon showing that FF is open, but if I click it nothing happens. I am literally stuck. I ma o computer whizz kid, so any suggestions/help gratefully received. Thanks

Do you have the Firefox icon on your quick launch? Close Firefox. Right click on the icon and select Open New Tab. Sometimes this works. If it opens, close it by Menu > File > Exit.
Close everything else, then press the power key until the computer is off.

This does not solve the problem in the long run. Firefox resists all efforts to force quit it also. It will not allow the Macbook to shut down. If you have to shut down the computer to get it to exit the program it is no fix. The developers need to fix this with the next release.
