Hi Jim thanks for asking!! Heres how to KILL Yahoo search :) . Go to Menu>Search click the Yahoo search and then click the remove button on the right below the box.

Unless there is interference from external software or an add-on, Firefox should remember your preferences for your default search engine and can hide the Yahoo icon from the search bar. The actual Yahoo search engine plugin (XML file) is in Firefox program folder and will be restored each time you update Firefox, so there's not that much point in physically deleting it.

As Jon mentioned earlier, you can select your default search engine and hide unwanted "one-off" buttons in the Preferences dialog here (either):

• "3-bar" menu > Preferences > Search
• Firefox menu > Preferences > Search

Now, why would that setting possibly not be honored? Check whether you have picked up any Spigot or Conduit add-ons, or other mystery items. You can open the Add-ons page using either:

• Command+Shift+a
• "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. Here you can set unrecognized or nonessential plugins to "Never Activate".

In the left column, click Extensions. Here you can disable and often remove unwanted or unrecognized extensions.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Note: If you got these add-ons in your Firefox, see whether you can track down how they got onto your system. Usually, they accompany something "free" you downloaded and installed, sometimes disclosed and sometimes hidden, and if you don't clean that up, too, your Firefox problem may return.
