I am attempting to follow the Mozilla support page on 'Thunderbird - cannot delete messages'.

I have opened the folder as per step 4.

In attempting step 5, Trash.msf deleted but Trash did not as it said I did not have permissions. Where to from here?

Chosen solution

You must QUIT the thunderbird before deleting the (Trash.msf) file.

Still issue, try with new profile

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

Are you getting any particular error code?

Could you provide the screenshot.

Close and Reopen the Thunderbird.

I am not getting any error codes. I simply cannot delete messages when depressing the 'delete' key. I was following the Mozilla support notes on "Thunderbird - Cannot delete messages' (copy attached'. I got to step 5, deleted trash.msf, but could not delete 'trash'.

I am running a Vista OS.

I have posted the error message I receive when trying to delete 'trash'.

If I can manage to delete this file, it appeaqrs relatively straightforward to recreate the folder (according to support notes).

On starting Thunderbird this morning I again attempted to delete some message. IT WORKED. Whilst the issue is solved, the cause remains a mystery.

Thank you for your assistance.
