A while ago i updated Firefox and i discovered the new tab page that wasn't there before the update, i set this as my home page and pinned my favorite websites and it was great. But i opened Firefox today and a popup came up saying something about an update or download and now my 'new tab' page looks different and i can only pin 8 tabs instead of 9. I much preferred the previous way and if there is any way to return it back to how it was please let me know.

I am fairly certain on my version of Firefox 33 on Window 7 that I can pin more than 8. However there are 10 on my about:newtab page.

You can modify how many there are on the page by changing the horizontal and vertical tiles argument, but this does not control pins.

browser.newtabpage.pinned also has a list of urls of the currently pinned tiles. You can add it here too if it refuses to do this.
