This is the normal function of a VPN. The VPN establishes an encrypted "Tunnel" to the Mozilla servers like shown here. Websites you visit can only see the IP-address of Mozillas servers so you are partly anonymous and because of the encrypted "tunnel" "hackers" are not able to scam you in public Wifi-hotspots. It's kind of like you are in Mozillas "home-network" when the VPN is activated. When you want to communicate with devices in your home-network you have to disable the VPN meanwhile.
