I have about a years worth of downloads to sift through and organize. This means I have a lot of folders open as I move the files to appropriate locations. The last thing I need is to needlessly have the browser open among all that clutter.

So....how can I close my Firefox browser window without the downloads window closing automatically also? Or even better, is it possible to just open the downloads window and not the browser window?

Again, I want ONLY THE DOWNLOADS WINDOW open, not the browser window. i see that others have asked similar questions, but no one has ever offered a solution.

Chosen solution

Avoid using File > Exit or the red X button. Instead: press Ctrl+j to display the Downloads window, then use Ctrl+w to close the last remaining tab(s). The Downloads window should stay open. Any luck?

THANK! That did in fact work. I'm sure i will accidentally close the window by clicking the X a million times before I get used to using Ctrl +W, but it most definitely works. I don't know how many different ways I tried finding this on google. You rock!
