last time some1 set it up for me. i would only have 1 shortcut on my desktop. everytime i clicked on it, it would ask me which profile i wanted. even if i had 1 or 2 of the others open it would still ask me which profile i wanted to open. i want to be able to do it that way again.
yes i already set up the 3 profiles. but once i open up the one profile, and click on the short cut to open another, it just opens a brwser window with the profile in use. so i could open 10 windows, its only 1 profile, the first profile i used. and yes i have the box not checked
the links where not a help, i looked them over, i had that info already and it does not do what i specified. those links you gave where to do so much extra work and to make my desktop have several short cuts. 1 shortcut for each profile. which is exactly what i dont want to do.
i want to have 1 shortcut on my desktop, when i click on it, i want to have the profile manager ask which profile i want. then i click on the profile. also it will allow me to have multiple profiles running at once, and all opened by clicking the same shortcut on my desktop

Open the Profile Manager and un-check Don't ask at startup.
You can make one desktop shortcut and only use the -P command line switch if you want to launch the Profile Manager.
did that, no help
is there certain ff versions that do it verses some that do?
i remember when ff4.0 came out it wouldn't do it
What doesn't work?
Don't you get the ProfileManager ?
If you want to open multiple profiles at the same time then you need to use the -no-remote switch to open additional instances with another profile.
of course i got the manager, i stated i made the 3 profiles already. now, you make your3 profiles. you click the first profile to open the browser. then you minimize that browser window. you go back and click the short cut again so you can have the manager start again so you can start the next profile. but it doesn't. it just goes straight to opening a new window. and the window is running on the first profile. so now you have 2 windows but on the same first profile you startered.

cor-el your last link was even more complicated, and moe confusing then anything.
thank you trying to help, but i can see you don't know what i am talking about. bc it is only 2 steps what i did to make multiple profiles. and your links do not do what i specified what i wanted to do. you keep posting links to make several shortcuts ----again, not looking to make 3 shortcuts on my desktop. there is a way to run on only 1 shortcut. 1 ---one---short cut for several profiles
You can read about using the -no-remote switch in addition to the -P switch to open multiple profiles at the same time in the last article that I mentioned above.
In that case you need to use -no-remote -P
