Hello,

I exported the old bookmarks from an old computer into a new computer with the firefox HTML file option

Once I imported them into the new version of Firefox, I could only see the "recent" bookmarks in the bookmark menu view.

I checked the settings but could not find anything to modify this.

I can see all of the bookmarks if I go into Manage Bookmarks but I can't see anything but the recent ones in the bookmark menu

I tried this on two different computers so perhaps I am missing a setting somewhere?

Thanks!

Matt

Hi Matt, where do you see the bookmarks in the Library window -- which of the 3 buckets in the left column? Firefox often is smart enough to put them in the original locations, but sometimes one of these will occur:

  • A new "Imported Bookmarks" folder is created at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu. The structure should be preserved so you can drag folders where they belong.
  • Everything ends up in Other Bookmarks or some other folder -- if you are running the Default Bookmark Folder extension, it can do this during bulk operations like imports and restores. You need to disable this extension during bulk operations.

Open the file using a 'Word' type program. Or a web browser. Is the data there?

Hey Fred,

Yes we are able to see the data when opening the file in Word.

Hey J,

I do not see an imported bookmarks folder in the bookmarks menu. It seems to place the imported bookmarks into the "Bookmarks Menu" I cannot see this menu unless I click Manage Bookmarks. I've tested on two different windows machines and even if I am not using the imported bookmarks file, I can only ever see recent bookmarks and cannot see anything else in the bookmarks menu. I'm not sure what I must be doing wrong as I don't have any custom extensions enabled that would effect the bookmarks. This does seem like an odd issue as my bookmark menu just doesn't seem to let me see anything but recent bookmarks regardless of how I set it up.

Thanks!

Here are three ways to access the Bookmarks Menu:

You can do a cut and paste in the Library to move the bookmarks from its current folder to a folder that is more convenient for you.
