Constant issue with downloading xx,xxx files of xx,xxx
Struggling with TB constantly "downloading" x 10s of thousands of 10s of thousands of emails (all of which are downloaded), and the programme grinding to a halt. Have set the inboxes to a retention policy of 2500 total. So shouldn't even be trying to DL more than that. Seems to mainly manifest when I compose an email (exactly the time that the sluggishness is a problem). Have done the usual compacting/deleting * files.
This is getting to be a real issue now. I wonder if there's any paid support channels that can deal with this?

The auto updater has screwed up some of my setting and glitched TB Performing a "Clean" reinstall over your existing installation. Please follow these steps:
- Download the latest version of Thunderbird from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/ and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download is complete, close all Thunderbird windows (Click Exit/Quit from the menu button on the right).
- Run the setup file downloaded in item 1
Hope this solves your problem.

Thanks for this. How do I perform a clean install in TB Port and keep all of my settings and accounts etc?

No Idea, but I am wondering why it is assumed the updater has had an issue. I really have no idea what constant re-downloading of emails has to do with updating.
What mail provider are you using? What operating system? (the forum reports windows 10) Is the account IMAP or POP? This is important.
