Pop up within a tab, changes my tab view?

For a long time this scenario has worked fine.... I have multiple tabs open, we'll just say A & B. In Tab A I click something I know will generate a pop up on this page in a while, but I manually swap to Tab B to start working on something else. When the pop up appears in Tab A, I can see the text of the tab go bold, and my view remains on Tab B so I can continue as I want.

But now suddenly, when I switch to Tab B, once that pop up appears in Tab A my view is forcibly changed to Tab A instantly. Pretty inconvenient since it interrupts what I'm doing in Tab B.

How can I go back to the original behavior?
