Opening link didn't always open a new tab

I'm using Firefox v79.0.5 on Android 10, and a browser behavior has apparently changed.

Used to be that if I opened a link that was active on a tab, that tab would become current.

Now, when I open a link, it always opens a new tab, so that I have 2 (or more) tabs displaying the same link.

Is there a control/setting I can use to restore the old behavior?

Thanks in advance.

I believe this post more correctly belongs on the Firefox for Android forum, and cannot determine how to move it there. Thanks again.
