Why is the "Deleted" items folder suddenly displaying only 1 item ?
I clicked on the "Deleted" items folder in Thunderbird as I wished to inspect a message received and deleted a few days ago. To my surprise the only message displayed was one I received and deleted today.

Are you using IMAP. If so your provider probably has a limit on how long items stay in the trash.
Yes, I am using an IMAP provider and the Account Setting is not to delete permanently any message. I have not had this problem before and have been able to retain all deleted messages in the "Deleted" Folder for long periods until I choose to consign them to the Recycle Bin.
If you are talking about Do not Delete in the Thunderbird settings your provider could care less about those. They have their own retention rules.
Did you empty the trash from another device like a phone or tablet?
