How do I stop Grammarly, which I do not want, from opening a new tab every time I launch Firefox?
Each time I launch Firefox on my PC, it opens a new window encouraging users to sign up for Grammarly. As a former professor of English and comparative literature, as well as manager of various technical publications offices for the Department of Energy, I do not feel I need this software service. I am also concerned about privacy/security issues, as the program engages no matter what text program I am using on my PC, and I worry that it may capture and transmit my keystrokes without my knowledge or consent. Please advise on how to prevent Grammarly from opening a new tab each time I launch Firefox. Thanks.

Grammarly is an add-on. Is it installed on your system?
Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>)<Shift> A)
Select Extensions, locate the add-on. From here you can disable or remove it.

Thanks for your prompt response. I discovered Grammarly had somehow installed itself as an add-on, so I deleted it before I ever read your guidance. What disturbs me is how it got installed without my choosing to do so.
It’s very sad, but many of the software downloaders / installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well. You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print. You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does. From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.
A good example is the installation of Adobe Reader. With each version update the initial window has the option, presented in fine print, for also installing McAfee Plus with the option box checked by default. As I have McAfee Live Scan on my PC, I always uncheck that box before proceeding, but I suspect many people never even notice it. Like you, I try to perform manual installs whenever possible to avoid inadvertently installing software I don't want. Good advice. Thanks.
