I don't always want to append a stored signature to my sign-off. I would like to be able to use different ones for different types of respondents, and sometimes none at all. How can I do that please?

I seem to remember an add on called Signature Switch. You might go to the add ons page and search for it.

Thank you very much. I will look into it. It may be more trouble than it's worth!

I use 'Signature Switch'

you can set the default in 'Account settings', which i presume you have already set up.

I use thunderbird's Write window to create signatures. then I save them as HTML files in a folder on my Desktop. One is attached to the default in 'Account Settings'.

Others I can choose using Signature Switch. Very easy to use.

Signature Switch:

How to Install Add-on Extension: After downloading addon extension *.xpi file to desktop or downloads folder.

In Thunderbird 'Tools' > 'Add-ons' or 'Menu icon' > 'Add-ons'

  • Click on gear wheel icon and select 'Install Add-on From File'.
  • Locate the *.xpi file you downloaded and click on 'Open'.
  • You may need to restart Thunderbird when prompted.

Once downloaded and installed.

Open a Write window. right click on the toolbar and select 'customise' or View > Toolbars > Customise Drag 'Signature icon' onto toolbar. close customise window - click on 'done'

Now to link it up to your saved html signature files. Click on the signature icon and select 'Options' In signature Switch Options window click on 'New' Description: Give signature an identifiable name Path: locate the html file - click on the small folder icon to locate the file select file and click on Open

There are other options availble but the info I've given will set it up and running. When you want to use something other than the default, clickon the signature icon and select from drop down list.

Note: One drawback as yet not fixed by author. On eg: 'Replies' to emails, if you, like me, have responses written above the quoted reply section, it will add the signature to the bottom, leaving the default still visible in the top section.. I cut and paste it into the correct position overwriting the default signature. A small inconvenience for whtis a really neat addon.
