I do have McAfee installed as part of my Company mandatory requirements. Cannot avoid that. But maybe Disable and Enable later.

But please provide screenshots in your solution to identify the right menu and steps to proceed. It is impossible to tell which menu in the Chinese list is "Add-ons" and which is "Extensions or Appearance"... Please help...

Here is a screen shot showing the icons with their English-language labels.

To open the Add-ons page, you can use either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter

Does that help?

By the way, if you do not want your Firefox user interface in Chinese, you may need to reinstall using the language you actually want.

I suggest trying it this way if it is allowed in your environment:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 40.0.3 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

If your company uses the Extended Support Release version of Firefox: Download a fresh installer for Firefox 38.2.1esr from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename the program folder, either:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Does that get you menus you can read?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \OldFirefox\Plugins
  • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

Thank you for your quick response with the English Screenshot and shortcut to get there! However, my Add-on page shows nothing alarming. It does not show McAfee in the "Plugin" section but only Adobe. But in the next few options/tabs I see others but cannot make out if any are from McAfee.

I previously had a Firefox version that was perfectly fine. The sudden change in the language was a result of an Firefox Update that happened today. The version that I have now is "Firefox ESR 38.2.1" screenshot attached (I managed to tumble across through the Chinese menu).

It is quite important for me to get this fixed. A couple of colleagues too mentioned this issue after their Firefox was updated.

But again THANK YOU for you quick response. I will have to look into this my day time tomorrow. It is too late in the night here 12:30 am. I will check for solutions and responses in the morning. -Joseph

What is the value of the general.useragent.locale pref on the about:config page?

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

You can try to reinstall the en-US version of Firefox. Firefox 38.2.1/ ESR:
