What makes you think it was not removed? If you back into saved passwords it it still shown on the list.

You do realize that all email accounts have a password that is established with your email provider. Is that the one you are being asked for?

You would have had to add the master password for Thunderbird. It only protects the saved passwords in Thunderbird. If that is what you are being asked for you can cancel that a few times and get to your email. Since you say you got to the remove password screen I doubt that is what you are facing.

This article will tell you how to clear a forgotten master password. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Master_password

Like I said I doubt that this is what you are seeing. Most likely you have had Thunderbird remembering your password long enough that you have forgotten your email password. You can go to your email providers web mail or email help page and look for a link to reset your password for your email account.

I cannot get mail in thunderbird unless i put in a password I did NOT create I did not have to do this 3 days ago. Since I did NOT create it it is It not the password i would use if I were gettting mail thru gmail (my email provider)

after following instructions at mozillazine I received these messages: Could not read chrome manifest 'file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Mozilla%20Thunderbird/chrome.manifest'. While creating services from category 'profile-after-change', could not create service for entry 'Disk Space Watcher Service', contract ID '@mozilla.org/toolkit/disk-space-watcher;1' 2014-10-14 11:01:21 autosyncActivities ERROR onDownloadCompleted: TypeError: this._syncInfoPerFolder[folder.URI] is undefined

Thunderbird does not create a password out of the air. I have no idea what you are doing. I do know that gmail has made some changes lately and it has been asking people to reenter their passwords for various tasks.

Here are the basics. The only password that can be created in Thunderbird is the master password. We have discussed what it does and how to remove it already.

The only other password involved with email is the password that you establish with your email provider. Once again this has be covered.

I am not sure what else you want.

If you go to your email providers web mail page does your original email password still work. If so then that has not been changed and you have not been hacked.

You could have some other password software on your computer but that would have nothing to do with Thunderbird.

I think your using two factor authentication with gmail and application passwords.

Thunderbird CAN NOT get gmail without a password, either one you supply each time mail is checked or one saved in the password manager.

Now lets look at this sensibly. If your gmail account was hacked your password on gmail would be changed, not on Thunderbird. You say it has not happened

So what you are saying is Thunderbird got hacked. That means your computer has been hacked. An extremely unlikely event unless your dealing with Corporate or Government secrets. SEriously hackers can not be bothered with Joe Public's computer, there are easier ways to get him to ledt you in. Like installing a load of Malware when he clicks that link to your site.

Removing Thunderbird is not a cure for the issue your suggesting. A total computer wipe with security software is indicated if the box has been compromised, although business would just replace it as it can never be sure of it again. If the box has not been compromised then try and understand what is happening rather than jump to mostly farfetched conclusion as it is apparently fashionable top do. The computer security industry (worth billions) and the NSA has the whole world paranoid.

As stated before, all email accounts require a password. There is no way to use email and not have a password. You need to contact gmail and have them explain how to use their email service. This is not a Thunderbird issue.

Look, you have been told how to clear any stored passwords in Thunderbird. Thunderbird is software running on YOUR computer. No one is going to fix it other than you. Seems funny that you seem to know a password that you did not add.
