The sound of a bullet ricocheting occurs whenever I open to a picture when I read the NY times or other image. I was unable to re produce the sound when I switched to Safari.I was working with Apple care and was determined that Firefox was the culprit.

Websites usually do not attach sounds to specific actions, but add-ons could do it.

Could you review your plugins and extensions on the following screens and disable all the ones that do not look essential for daily browsing:

Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins category
Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category

You usually have to restart Firefox before that takes full effect.

Another thought. These images, are they in pop-up windows? Wondering whether the sound might be related to a pop-up blocker of some kind.

I think that I've seen an autofill extension mentioned causing this issue, so you may check their properties to see if you can disable this sound.
