Something has taken start-up control to replace the homepage preference in the file prefs.js with www.searchqu.com\413. I have edited the prefs.js file replacing the home page with yahoo. That file gets changed as Firefox gets loaded. McAfee has not found any maleware on my computer. I've uninstalled and reinstalled without correcting the problem. The problem is also on MS Internet Explorer. There may be a problem with Java. I'm using 6.0.300

Thanks for the information. Since I posted the question I have discovered that a tool bar named searchqu was blocking changes to the the home page. I was able to stop it from blocking changes; however, I haven't found where to deleted it from Firefox.
