I cannot Access Gmail accounts AND Thunderbird doesn't save ANY password...please help!

Hi all, A few days ago I had to use a old backup with my computer as I accidentally damaged my Windows 10 installation, so I suddenly found myself with my 2016 e-mails in my Thunderbird...

Premise:

All my mails are based on Imap: a) One is from my internet provider. b) One is my MSN account (@live.it). c) Three are from Gmail.

The MSN account password was lost, but was the least of my worries.

I have updated to the latest edition and I have tried to insert my new passwords and the following happen:

a) My internet provider password *works* (i.e., if I connect with my IP's website I can check my e-mail) and I have configured my e-mail as listed here and here.

The mail keep loading (i.e., "to and from" little grey ball next to inbox on the Inbox tab), but never asks me a password and the password is not saved.

b) On Gmail I use the following settings:

SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com Port: 465 Connection security: TSL/SSL Authentication method: OAuth2

IMAP Server: imap.gmail.com Port: 933 Connection security: TSL/SSL Authentication method: OAuth2

It connects, open the authorization page...I authorize...and then says that the authentication failed and doesn't save the password...

I have also tried the following: - Google Account -> Security -> Less secure app access -> On - Used Clear Captcha (opened https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and accessed with my credentials, which it does!).

Moreover my Google Account says "Mozilla Thunderbird Email Has access to Gmail" if I check Google Account -> Data & privacy -> Data from apps and services you use -> Third-party apps with account access ...so Google is granting access to Thunderbird!

So seems obvious that the latest Thunderbird release must be bugged!

On top of all, Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Accepts cookies from sites is both checked and configured with "Accept third-party cookies: always"!

I really don't know what to do!

Can you help?

Thanks, Skarm

P.S.: I am seriously considering uninstalling Thunderbird for good, because an e-mail client with an issue as big as being unable to access the e-mail server is useless, but I have used it for years and I'd want to try to give it a last try...

create a new user profile in about profile (you will find it in the troubleshoot information on the help menu) and try configuring your gmail account in the new profile.

Just as a informational point, I use numerous gmail account with Thunderbird, but I did not bring my profile out of cold storage after 6 years and try and use it. My guess is you should probably delete the passwords file as the restoration from the past may have corrupted it. But it may also be something , either a modified setting or something else that is preventing the stored cookies for oauth actually being retained. ccleaner is good for messing things up in that way.

Trying a new profile will help in isolating if it is profile related or system related. If you messed up your windows 10, you also have a new install of everything else, including security software. So there is no assuming cause and effect.
