For test automation I need the option in about:config to set an action for a content type entry.

I have already found that I can start firefox with options=set_preference("browser.helperApps.neverAsk.openFile", "application/rss+xml") but now the file is being downloaded and I need it to be displayed in FireFox.

Can someone please assist me?

Firefox no longer supports RSS live feed files and will want to download such a file. A possible workaround is to prefix the link with the view-source; protocol to override the 'open with' download dialog and let Firefox display the file. Otherwise you need a feed reader extension.
