Hi I am using Thunderbird for all my email accounts (thanks for a great product!). My problem is this: I have set up the spam "filter Rules" with ticks next to "Manually Run" and "Getting New Mail: [Filter before Junk Classification]".... and it sort of works well, but even though I want mail from a specified selection of senders to go straight to my Inbox - I doesn't do this automatically!? What happens is that I see that there is mail in my Junk-box, but only when I click on the Junk-box does the mail actually move from the Junk-box to the Inbox!? What can I do to make this happen automatically? Is there something about the settings that I don't understand?

I don't think I understand the comment about clicking on the Junk folder. However, Thunderbird's filters only work automatically on the Inbox, which is where, when all is well, your new mail arrives.

I think the fundamental problem is that some mail goes straight to Junk. You're using filters to remedy this, but you will always have to run the filter manually since this isn't the Inbox folder.

The filters are not perfect. Mine regularly miss or mis-classify a few messages. I can't see any particular feature of these messages to explain why they are processed differently.

But, who is your provider? Some email servers use the Junk folder too. So some messages may be being moved to Junk before Thunderbird gets a chance to look at them. If this is happening, maybe you can whitelist these senders at the server and so avoid them going to Junk.
