we have tried changing the language in options etc. and this has changed the language that websites are displayed in. But at the top of my browser I can see the words Plik Edycja Widok Historia..... I want to see File Edit View History...... And if I click on that symbol on the right of my screen which has 3 vertical lines I get a load of icons accompanied by phrases such as Nowe okno, Nowe okno prywatne, zapisz strone, and best of all Tryb pelnoekranowy - what the **** does that mean? I want to see this in English, she wants to see it in Polish, can we toggle the language and if so how?

hi, there is no user facing way to do it but for convenience you can use an addon like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/simple-locale-switcher

as it's explained in the addon's description, you'll also need an english/polish language-pack from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/language-tools/ for it to work...

I've followed those links and downloaded things, but now what? How do I use them? All my on screen instructions are still in Polish.

the addon provides a button for quick language switching which you might have to drag out onto your toolbar: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars

It took me long enough ( and a bit of foreign language guesswork) but I finally got there. This worked - thank you philipp

Note that extensions and language packs are installed in the Firefox profile folder, so if you both have your own Firefox profile then all you have to do is to install the Polish language pack in the profile used by your girl friend. Then you do not need an extension.

You can set the general.useragent.locale pref on the about:config page to the language code, e.g. en-US and pl You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
