I was never given a admin password with this computer so I haven't been able to change or update anything for the year I have owned it. I need any and all options I have on correcting this issue. I am wondering if the "Update Firefox" option does NOT appear in the Update tab of Device manager for Firefox, because I am not administrated of Linux / system supervisor or running in Root. Please advise me of the best way to fix these issues. You should also know that because of the dated browser, this system barely moves, adobe crashes and other problems. Thank you in advance for your time and willingness to help. Penny Ramirez

Can't you install a newer Linux distribution?

If your current setup uses a separate partition for the Home directory then you won't lose your personal files.
You would only have to install all the packages that you have.
You can also make a backup of your home directory and restore your personal data after you've installed a new Linux distribution.
A Linux distribution will also stop to receive updates once it reaches end-of-live and in such a case you will have to update anyway.
