I recently refreshed Firefox in Ubuntu. I used again with no problem. However, when I went to clear history, it had reverted to the standard 'clear history' box with the first 4 choices automatically selected. I then, mistakenly I assume, also selected the last 2 choices in the 'delete history' box. When I next logged on, all buttons down the left hand side of the screen had disappeared, e.g. Files and Documents, Office Libre Spreadsheets, Firefox, Thunderbirds Email, You Tube, Ubuntu Software, Rubbish Bin etc. So I'm now left with a blank screen and can't do anything, go anywhere. I am using a spare laptop to ask this. Are you able to suggest a solution please, to recover everything? Thanks and best regards, David Hall.

I assume that you mean off-line cache data and Site Preferences?

Do you mean the favorites bar of your Linux distribution on the desktop?

If that is the case and this isn't something that is part of Firefox then this action can't have caused this to happen.

You can check if you still have all extensions installed and enabled, especially the extensions that Ubuntu usually adds to Firefox because a refresh will create a new profile and this profile doesn't have the extensions that your previous profile had.

Hi Cor-el and thanks response. Maybe it is just co-incidence that it's happened after refreshing Firefox. What I do know, after further experimentation, is that when I logon as me, none of my launcher icons are there, e.g. Firefox, Thunderbird, YouTube etc. Also, I can't do ctrl/alt/t for terminal. However, when I logon to guest session, all the launcher icons appear, except for Thunderbird, for which I can then create my existing email account and access my inbox, but of course none of my email folders are there; also I can do ctrl/alt/t for terminal and it works. When I switch back to my own account, then still none of the icons appear and I can't access Terminal. Any ideas how I can retrieve them all?? Thanks and best regards, David.
