trying to edit a contact but the date of birth field will not allow editing
when trying to edit a contact the date of birth field will not allow a date to be entered / edited.

How exactly are you trying to enter this?
You do not actually type this if you are using the drop down calendar. Click on the small down pointing arrow and select the date from the drop down calendar.
If wanting to type it: click in the box just to the left of the '/' to enter a number. It will not work if you accidentally enter the letter o instead of number 0.

Thank you for your suggestions. I am very familiar with calendar drop down boxes in various other programs and they are also often used on websites. However the one in Thunderbird is not functioning properly. I can choose the day, but the month is permanently stuck on October for some reason. For example July 20, 1947 is displayed as 20-Oct-07. Placing the cursor in the box to change the 20 or the 07 works but I cannot change Oct regardless of trying to edit in the box or navigating to the correct date on the drop down calendar. It is stuck on Oct for all of my contacts regardless of whether or not I have entered a birth date. I have closed the program and re-opened the program and searched online to see if anyone has encountered the same or some similar problem.

Can you check to see if this has been caused by an addon conflict?
In Thunderbird 'Help' > 'Restart with addons disabled'
click on 'Continue in Safe mode' button When Thunderbird has restarted: check to see if you can change the month and report back with results.
If no change check Config Editor: Tools > Options > Advanced > General tab click on 'Config Editor ' button it will tell you to be careful :)
confirm this line has these settings. Preference Name = ldap_2.servers.default.attrmap.BirthMonth; status = default Type = string Value = birthmonth
Restarting TB with addons disabled did not make a difference. I then went to the Config Editior and confirmed the following:
Preference Name = ldap_2.servers.default.attrmap.BirthMonth; status = default Type = string Value = birthmonth
I did notice that some of the preferences in the long list were displayed in the bold font where the above appeared in normal weight font. Not sure if that is significant or not but thought I would mention it.
Bold are preferences that are not set to their default value.

You will need to register or logon. Create new Thunderbird bug. Addressbook birthdate bug tell them your OS, version of TB and explain clealy what you do and what occurs.
