Version 14 is not displaying website icons on the left side of the address bar

more options

The icons that websites use for the address bar are helpful to me. As of a couple of days ago withe version 14, all that shows now are one of "website identification" icons.

Previous to v 14, I could mouse-over the site icon to get the identification, but now I get the appropriate identity icon, but not the one for the website.

I reverted to v. 13.0.

If I reupdate to 14 is there a way to get that website icon somehow?

Thank you,

lrand0

The Site Identity Button has changed to protect users from hackers trying to "spoof" legitimate looking site buttons. The site icon will still appear on bookmarks and on tabs, but not at the left end of the Location/URL bar.

I am not aware of a way to restore the old site icon to the Location/URL bar.

There is an Add-on to add some additional color to the new button --> https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/site-identity-button-colors/ (has only been preliminarily reviewd by Firefox; click here to learn more about what that means)

That security measure may be all well and good, but it means that the URL's icon that's now on the tab can't be dragged to the Windows taskbar to create a shortcut to the site--at least in my experience. The only way I can get a shortcut is to use Internet Explorer and drag the icon from there. There could hardly be a better disincentive to use Firefox, though I've done it for years, albeit less and less happily.

Did you try to drag the Site Identity Button button as you can't drag the tab anymore?

Dragging the Site Identity Button, a/k/a the URL icon, was the first thing I tried. It didn't work, which led me to investigate the problem, to no avail.
