older 3.6 would give a restore option is this gone now?

more options

I was using 3.6 because an addon wasn't upgraded. If my computer crashed or rebooted it would ask me if I want to restore previous session. The only new addon I have added is xmarks and I think when I installed it the first time there was something about the restore feature. I am on mac and I used a utility to delete all the folders and downloaded again.

See item #31 "(#tabslost)" in the following:

You can make Firefox 7.0.1 look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6). Whether or not you make changes, you should be aware of what has changed and what you have to do to use changed or missing features.

There is a lot more beyond those first 10 steps listed, if you want to make Firefox more functional.

The last sentence of your question is ambiguous to me regardless of whether you mean folders (what, where, more detail), or tabs (more detail).
